Try to use natural or available light at all times if possible; what this will do is that it will increase the originality of your picture. Avoid using flash, especially at close proximity to the subject for reducing the chances of the red eye effect and also to ensure that the subject/subjects do not appear to be of unnatural complexion. The high powered flash often makes subjects appear paler or of different color than the original.
Do not lose the focus from your subject to avoid washed out pictures, move in close and occupy the frame with the subject/subjects to keep the focus on perfectly. Focus is very important if you are shooting a moving object as otherwise the picture may have the subject blurred.
The trick to taking the best photograph while you are shooting an individual is to slant the camera view a little bit down the face of your subject and also try a three quarter side view to best capture the face of the person.
Centering your subject may be the right idea to have in order to focus on your subject, but be cautious so that the subject is slightly off the exact center. Use the grid line mode to capture if you are having problem deciphering the exact central position of the camera’s view.
If you did not know about all the information provided here already, then the quality of your photographs should increase if you follow them. The key is to know what to do and when, and that is something that you will develop only with experience and attention.
